Mi visita a los alrededores de la estación Obrera fue dividida en dos etapas distintas.
La primera etapa pasé caminando en las calles.
Aprendi que Bart y Homero Simpson son activistas medio ambientales de corazón.
La fachada y señal retro del Hotel Tio Sam me llamó la atención. Creo que ya han pasado sus dias de gloría.
Hay unos arbustos en macetas psicodélicas.
Hay más arte callejero chido y un edificio de una esquina tiene un diseño interesante.
Tuvé una buena charla con dos caballeros contando historias.
Pasé una tienda electronica llenisima hasta el borde. Impresionante!
Para terminar la primera etapa conoci un residente de larga duración de California que está de vuelta en su patria. Buen tipo! Estaba con su madre y padrastro.
La segunda etapa fue mi visita al absolutamente increible ‘museo del juguete antiguo méxico’.
Este lugar es realmente espectacular.
Hay una enorme cantidad de juguetes antiguos, raros y maravillosos de todo el mundo. Es la colección de juguetes antiguos más grande del mundo.
Si estas en la ciudad de México simplemente debes ir.
Tuvé la surte de conocer al coleccionista del museo Roberto Shimizu.
Él es mexicano de ascendencia japonesa y sus padres eran dueños de una tienda de juguetes.
Roberto me dijo que es custodio de alrededor de un millon de piezas de cuales 40,000 estan en exposición actualmente. Wow!
El edificio del museo también tiene arte buenisimo.

My visit to the surrounds of inner city station Obrera was basically broken into two distinct stages.
The first stage was wandering the streets.
I learnt that Bart and Homer Simpson are greenies at heart with images of them conveying environmental messages.
The retro facade and sign of Hotel Tio Sam caught my attention. I’m pretty sure it’s had its heyday.
There are some lovely shrubs in psychedelic pots.
There is some more cool street art and interesting patterns on a corner building.
I had a nice chat with two old-timers sharing some yarns.
I went past an electronics shop absolutely packed to the brim. Amazing!
To finish the first stage of this visit I met a long-time California resident now back in his native Mexico hanging out with his mum and step-dad. Nice guy!
The second stage was my visit to the absolutely incredible ‘museo del juguete antiguo méxico’ (Mexican Antique Toy Museum).
This place is unbelievable!
There is an enormous range of weird and wonderful antique toys from all over the world. It is the world’s largest antique toy collection.
If you are in Mexico City you simply must go!
I was lucky enough to meet the collector/curator of the museum Roberto Shimizu. He is Mexican of Japanese descent and his parents were toy shop owners.
Roberto told me that he is the custodian of around 1 million pieces of which 40,000 are currently on display at the museum. Wow!
The museum building also hosts some fantastic art.
