Station / Estación # 79: Copilco

Acababa de bajar en Copilco y estaba tomando unas fotos de la cabeza de bronce de un busto de bronce cuando un niñito me llamó.

Bienvenido a Jose Luis, de cinco años.

‘De aqui puedes sacar buena foto’ me dijo.  ‘Lo veo perfecto.’

Asi que, caminé a conocer mi mentor nuevo y saqué su foto recomendada.  Se lo aprobó.

Le dije que cuando él sea grande sería un fotógrafo profesional.  Parecía bastante contento con esto.

La estación está cerca de UNAM – La Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, la universidad más grande de México y por lo tanto está dominada por estudiantes.

Tengo ganas de explorar UNAM en la visita pendiente a estación Universidad.

En el área hay mucha buena onda – mucho arte callejero que incluye unas imagenes chidas de Miguel Estala, muchos libros y vinilos antiguos, juegos de azar y por supuesto mercancias del equipo profesional de fútbol de la universidad los ‘Pumas‘.

También hay una muestra impresionante de murales dentro de la misma estación de artistas famosos.

I had been on the scene at Copilco a mere matter of minutes and was photographing the bronze head of a bronze bust when a young boy called out to me.

Welcome five year old Jose Luis to the mix.

‘From here you can take a good photo’ he said.  ‘I can see it perfectly.’

So, I wandered over to my new mentor and obliged with a shot.  He approved.

I told him that when he grew up he would be a professional photographer and he seemed happy enough with that.

The station is very close to UNAM – The National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico’s biggest university and so naturally is dominated by students.

I’m looking forward to exploring the university in the upcoming visit to station Universidad.

The area has a cool vibe – there is a lot of street art including some nice stuff from Miguel Estala, lots of old books and old vinyl, gambling games and of course merchandise from the professional university soccer team the ‘Pumas‘.

There is also an impressive array of murals within the station itself from notable luminaries of the art world.  Above the gallery is a brief video of some of the murals and I snuck a few snaps in myself.
